  1. Community. OADC is a community of like-minded civil defense practitioners, sharing their collective knowledge to enhance the interests of civil defense law in Oregon.
  2. Practice Groups. OADC offers a variety of practice groups organized around key substantive areas of law to provide practicing attorneys with current information relevant to the substantive area of law in which they practice, as well as leadership opportunities. Practice Group memberships are included as part of your OADC Membership.
  3. Affinity Groups. OADC has four affinity groups, Diversity and Inclusion, Women in Law, New Lawyers, and Practice Management, offering a community for members that share a common interest, identity, or characteristic to collaborate and foster personal and professional development. Affinity Group memberships are included as part of your OADC Membership.
  4. Annual Meeting & Convention at Sunriver. A traditional family-friendly event to kick-off the summer at the Sunriver resort, offering an array of legal education sessions to further your professional development along with several fun social events the whole family can enjoy while you to connect and network with colleagues across the state.
  5. Fall Seminar. Hosted in the Portland-metro area, the Fall Seminar presents a discussion of current issues of interest to both OADC members and the insurance industry, and a unique opportunity to meet with insurance professionals in an informal environment.
  6. Practice Group Seminars and CLEs. Throughout the year, the OADC practice groups offer a variety of substantive law sessions and seminars, including our Commercial Seminar in the Spring, presenting unique topics of relevance to the various areas of substantive law our members’ practice.
  7. Practical Skills and Ethics. In the even numbered years OADC offers a Defense Practice Academy geared towards newer lawyers to provide specialized hands-on training and experience to help develop practical skills. In the odd numbered years OADC offers an Ethics Seminar designed to offer continuing education credits towards the ethics requirement with the Oregon State Bar.
  8. The Listserv. Perhaps one of the most valuable resources for OADC members is our listserv, providing practitioners with an opportunity to exchange real-time information and tips and share our collective knowledge. No need to reinvent the wheel!
  9. The Verdict. One of the most respected legal defense publications across the nation, the quarterly publication of The Verdict contains articles regarding current substantive and procedural developments in the law, a summary of recent case notes and petitions for review, biographies so you get to know our Oregon judges, defense victories and more.
  10. Government Affairs Committee/Voice in the Legislature. OADC manages and coordinates efforts in the presentation of defense bar positions before the Legislature, Oregon State Bar and Council on Court Procedures. Our lobbyist and legislative committee work to preserve the civil justice system and the defense bar perspective.
  11. Amicus Committee. The Amicus Committee reviews requests for amicus participation on issues in Oregon appellate courts of significance to the members of the OADC. The committee consists of some of OADC’s most distinguished appellate attorneys, and selectively identifies cases on which the OADC can provide valuable input and perspective on issues which will have significant effect on civil litigation in the areas of law practice by OADC members.
